Qingdao Steel Fortress by Robin Wang

SNP Group's design philosophy, emphasizing the preservation of urban history, is exemplified in the Qingdao Steel Fortress project. By carefully integrating anodised aluminium with pre-existing red brick, the design team has successfully reimagined the former industrial site into a steel fort theme park, infusing it with historic significance and urban vitality.

The project, completed in June 2021 in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, faced the challenge of seamlessly blending commercial functions with a cultural exhibition hall while preserving the building's historical characteristics. The result is a multi-level space, with the first floor serving as a temporary exhibition hall and the second floor as the main exhibition area. Open staircases in the public area encourage public activities, while new business forms like catering and cultural creativity have been introduced to meet modern societal needs.

Recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in 2022 for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design, the Qingdao Steel Fortress project stands as a testament to SNP Group's commitment to urban renewal and historical preservation. The design not only reimagines the past but also connects it with the present, creating a grand theater-like atmosphere that resonates with visitors.
