Monique Lee's Xin Ming Yuen restaurant design, inspired by the fusion of East and West cultures, wins the prestigious Silver A' Design Award for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design in 2020.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monique Lee's Xin Ming Yuen restaurant design is a captivating blend of traditional Chinese culture and modernity, taking inspiration from the East meets West culture of Hong Kong. The design, located in Beijing, China, offers a nostalgic journey through time, infusing the old Shanghai Paris in the Orient with contemporary elements. The restaurant formally opened for business in July 2019, following the completion of the project in June 2019.
The design reinterprets the essence of traditions in a contemporary manner, connecting diversities in harmony and creating a unique complex of art, culture, and fashion. It features contrasting properties of matt and shiny finishes, elevation and indention, and relaxation and invigoration, providing a new visual experience for visitors.
Utilizing modern techniques, the design incorporates new materials to revive ancient design concepts, such as wood materials with a brick texture coating and mosaic tile auspicious designs executed onto marble stones using water jet cutting technology. The restaurant's ceiling boasts an oxidized mirror effect achieved by eroded steel plate, while LED light tubes form a modernized pattern for soft and even lighting over the bar area.
Despite facing challenges, including legal restrictions on the use of glass ceilings, the design team overcame obstacles to bring the vision to life. The entrance, reception area, bar, and dining area each offer a unique visual journey through time and cultural relics, creating a space that resonates with the memories of Shanghai in the 50s and 60s.
Monique Lee's Xin Ming Yuen restaurant design won the Silver A' Design Award for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design in 2020, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence. The design is a testament to Lee's passion for art and her commitment to creating spatial comfort and simplicity through her designs.
