Langcer Lee Unveils Handcrafted Packaging Inspired by Late Qing Dynasty Culture

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Traditional Chinese Engraving Technology and Handmade Rice Paper Bring History to Life

Langcer Lee, a renowned designer, has unveiled the Jingyang Brick Tea packaging, a tribute to the late Qing Dynasty merchant culture and local customs. The packaging, inspired by the historical significance of the tea, uses traditional Chinese engraving technology and handcrafted rice paper to encapsulate the essence of the era.

The packaging, measuring 100mm x 100mm x 40mm, is a result of extensive research into the history and cultural significance of the Jingyang Brick Tea, which has a legacy of over 600 years. The project commenced in May 2018 in Tianjin and was completed in February 2019, with the official launch for sale in March 2019.

The design team, led by Langcer Lee, includes Creative Director Langcer Lee, along with designers Yang Jie, Guo LinWei, Riso Guo, and Limo Pan. The team also includes illustrator Zhang Fan and photographer Jiang Tao, who captured the essence of the design in stunning visuals.

The packaging not only pays homage to the historical roots of the tea but also addresses environmental concerns by using natural materials and traditional techniques. The use of handmade rice paper and wood-block prints for inscription rubbing promotes the inheritance of China’s intangible cultural heritage, while also providing employment opportunities for local women.

Langcer Lee's Jingyang Brick Tea packaging has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in 2020, showcasing outstanding expertise and innovation in packaging design. The design not only reflects the historical and cultural significance of the tea but also serves as a testament to the designer's commitment to reviving tradition in modern packaging.
