Wei Ting Lin's The River One project is a luxury residential apartment located near a river in Ningbo, China. Designed by architect Richard Rogers, the building features a Bowellism style with irregular polygons, creating a multi-angle, non-square interior space that reflects the architect's philosophy and blends with its riverside location.
The unique design extends the indoor layout to the outdoor area, creating a tight connection with the surrounding view. Reflective and transparent elements such as mirrors and glass are used to match Rogers' geometric glass curtain wall design, softening the sharp feeling caused by the structure's tangent lines.
The project aims at young bourgeois elites and uses a mix of materials like marble, sintered stone, metal parts, mirror, and glass to satisfy the pursuit of fine living details while retaining the uniqueness of Rogers' work. The space is designed to be diverse, with precise and meticulous processes adopted to realize the design.
The River One covers an area of around 280.99 square meters and uses reinforced concrete technology. The project was completed in 2021 and is tagged with keywords such as luxury, Ningbo, mansion, modern, leisure, and staycation.
Due to the pandemic, the design team achieved tasks such as material selection, construction arrangement, and technology guidance online, bridging the gap between design and practice. The living room and terrace are designed for leisure purposes, incorporating relaxing and bright colors to create a cozy and soothing atmosphere.
The project faced challenges during the pandemic, including logistics and material shortages, which required adaptability skills to maintain quality. The irregular structure of the architecture was compensated with the use of arc, oval, circle, and curved lines in the design.
Wei Ting Lin's The River One project received the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
