Songshan Cihui Temple has unveiled the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Hall, a unique and iconic religious space designed by Yung-Hsi Peng, Pei-Chi Hung, and Parn Shyr Design. The hall worships the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva of Great Vows and reflects the philosophy of patience and steadiness. The 9.5 meters Bagua diagram lightwell brings in natural light, symbolizing the philosophic ideology of each thing generating each other and evolution. The space features white marble carvings, crystal white chrysanthemum petals, and iridescent clouds, all inspired by Chinese culture and symbolism.
The hall's design aims to create a comfortable, outstanding, and reserved atmosphere. The 9.5 meters high white lightwell introduces natural light, while the wall elevation utilizes relief carving on marble, showcasing iridescent clouds. The Ksitigarbha statue is carved with gentle white jade, and the hall features 28 white carved marble sustaining columns, each with its unique symbolism related to the beliefs of the temple.
The Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Hall is a departure from traditional designs, featuring a rectangular space with the 3 meters tall Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva statue as the main design element. The project faced challenges due to its unique architectural specifications, including its width, length, and height. However, the designers overcame these challenges to create a space that reflects the culture and beliefs of the temple.
