Both Boutique & Music: A Fusion of Art, Music, and Culture

Prism Design has transformed the Red Town Sculpture Museum in Shanghai, China, into a vibrant hub with Both Boutique & Music. This innovative concept integrates a Vinyl Record Bar & Cafe, offering a dynamic fusion of Western and Eastern influences, creating a contrast that sparks creativity and interaction.

Red Town, once an ironworks, has evolved into one of Shanghai’s most popular sculpture art districts, featuring galleries, cafes, exhibition spaces, and creative offices. Both Boutique & Music adds to this eclectic mix, providing a space for casual meetings, creative work, and relaxation.

Both Boutique spans 370 square meters, while Both Music, with a two-layer structure, covers 170 square meters. The project commenced in January 2015, with the design completed in April 2015. Construction finished in September 2015, and the store opened the same month.

Prism Design's approach involved extensive research, including a study of the regionality, client requests, construction site measurements, and conceptual modeling. Overcoming challenges such as understanding user preferences, operational considerations, environmental impact, and local regulations, the team selected specialty materials, optimized operation flow, and collaborated with local design institutes.

Prism Design's Both Boutique & Music is a testament to the studio's commitment to innovative design, extending the parameters of architecture and design. The project was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2016, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable design qualities.
