Award-winning Ukd Catalog Redefines Publication Organization

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ukd: A Modern Approach to Catalog Design

Izabela Jurczyk's Ukd catalog breaks the monotony of traditional publications, drawing inspiration from Mark Rothko's vibrant paintings and the spatial division of bookshelves in libraries. By employing vivid colors and clear domain symbols, Ukd revolutionizes the cataloging process, making it more intuitive and efficient.

The hardcover publication, embossed with silver foil and printed on mass-dyed paper, features large, colorful dividers that clearly delineate different fields, enhancing the overall user experience. The unique design allows librarians to quickly navigate and locate specific content, improving the efficiency of cataloging and retrieval processes.

Measuring 215mm x 36mm x 310mm, Ukd's innovative approach to catalog design sets it apart as a practical and visually striking solution for organizing and accessing diverse texts across various disciplines.

One of the key challenges in realizing the Ukd catalog was the intricate bookbinding process and the selection of Pantone colors for screen printing on mass-dyed paper. Despite these complexities, the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail resulted in a durable and visually captivating publication.

Designed and completed between July 2019 and November 2019 in Poland, Ukd represents a significant leap forward in the field of catalog design, earning Izabela Jurczyk the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2024 for its innovative and practical approach.
