Energola: Redefining Pergola Design with Solar Energy

In a revolutionary approach to modern construction, designer Jarosław Markowicz introduces Energola, a side shutter for pergolas that not only provides sun protection but also harnesses solar energy. Each wing features micro photovoltaic panels, allowing for adjustable sun and wind protection while producing clean solar energy. The design, developed in Warsaw, offers a sustainable solution for energy production in architectural spaces, with a scalable module adaptable to user requirements.

The Energola design is based on extruded profiles, with solar panels mounted on the main profile, enabling easy material separation for recycling. The product's mobility and energy functions are powered by solar energy, with surplus production capable of being integrated into the building's energy network. This innovative approach to energy production and architectural design earned Energola the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components category in 2020.

The project, initiated in September 2019, overcame significant technical challenges to create a lightweight product with integrated electronics and photovoltaic panels. Energola's adaptability is further highlighted by its remote-controlled wing tilt, offering a seamless user experience without the need for additional power supply. With its unique blend of functionality and sustainability, Energola sets a new standard for solar-powered architectural elements, redefining the possibilities for energy production in modern construction.
