Sparkling Ripples: A Fusion of Glass Mosaic and Stainless Steel

Kuo-Hsiang Kuo's latest creation, Sparkling Ripples, is a stunning three-dimensional relief sculpture that adorns the walls of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. This captivating artwork, inspired by the unceasing flow of knowledge dissemination within a campus environment, utilizes meticulously hand-inlaid glass mosaic and stainless steel to create a dynamic visual display characterized by overlapping heights and a sense of depth. The shimmering artwork symbolizes a hopeful future and stands as the defining feature of the urban space.

Crafted with precision, the artwork dynamically responds to changes in light and wind, creating a mesmerizing play of shimmering undulations that extend into the surrounding space. The mirror-like water ripples, illuminated by spotlights in the evening, evoke a sense of movement and vitality, transcending tangible spatial boundaries.

The dimensions of the artwork are 300 cm x 745 cm x 30 cm, and it was completed in January 2022 after starting in May 2021. The design challenges were overcome through meticulous employment of various sizes of circles and intersecting lines, infusing color to enhance visual depth and three-dimensionality.

This awe-inspiring piece has garnered international acclaim, winning the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2024, showcasing Kuo-Hsiang Kuo's profound expertise in public art and contemporary sculpture. His unique artistic style combines natural elements with modern art, aiming to resonate with viewers and provoke deep reflections on life and nature.
