Architect Yoshiaki Tanaka introduces a new regional medical center in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, designed to bring warmth and unity to patients and visitors.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Architect Yoshiaki Tanaka has unveiled the Wooden Axis Large Roof, a new regional medical center in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, designed to house an internal medicine clinic, orthopedic clinic, and pharmacy. The design aims to create a warm and welcoming space for patients and visitors, with a focus on unity and natural elements.
The site, located along an arterial road, is designed to stand out from commercialistic road service architecture, with a wooden shaft interior and sunoko walls on the exterior to bring a sense of unity and warmth to the space. The three buildings are connected by a wooden "sunoko" design code, creating a cohesive and inviting environment.
The design features large openings to the full ceiling, allowing gentle natural light to illuminate the space and create a pleasant atmosphere. The use of sunoko walls for the exterior skin allows for better air flow, contributing to faster and more durable drying than typical wooden exterior walls.
Project duration for the Wooden Axis Large Roof spanned from July 2021 to January 2023, and the location is 64 Asahigaoka, Minamisakae, Owariasahi City, Aichi Prefecture. The design was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
