The HitoBito art installation, designed by Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan, is a remarkable fusion of traditional Asian crafting and modern architectural design. The installation, with its weaved bamboo façade and white-painted steel pipes, symbolizes the cultural diversity of Taipei City.
The structural design draws inspiration from the Chinese character for a person, with two small entrances merging into a space where visitors can experience captivating motion graphics projected onto the ground.
The installation, measuring 9.8 meters in width, 7.8 meters in depth, and 3.5 meters in height, was realized using manually bent steel pipe structures clad with bamboo dowels. A central projector creates an immersive experience for visitors, enhancing the ambiance of the festival.
This awe-inspiring installation was a part of the Taiwan lantern festival, celebrating the cultural diversity of Taiwan. It was a result of extensive research and creative collaboration, overcoming the challenges of integrating industrial materials with traditional craftsmanship.
Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan, the brilliant minds behind this project, have been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award for their outstanding and creatively ingenious design that has contributed to the quality of life improvements.
