Sunghoon Kim's historical exhibition, "Inside Out, A History of Korean Photography 1929-1982," opens at the MUSEUM HANMI SAMCHEONG

Sunghoon Kim's latest project, "Inside Out, A History of Korean Photography 1929-1982," is a captivating photo collection that delves into the past 50 years of Korean photography. The exhibition, which began in Seoul, South Korea in August 2022, is a testament to the institutional conditions that have shaped Korean photography over the years.
With a focus on the interplay of light and darkness, Kim's exhibition showcases a softcover book that measures 170mm x 240mm x 38mm and spans 512 pages. The book's cover comes in two versions - black and white - with each version featuring unique hot foil stamping techniques to express the essence of the exhibition title, "Inside Out."
Kim's meticulous attention to detail is evident in the design, which incorporates intuitive parentheses as graphic elements and utilizes matte paper to bring the historical photographs to life. The bookbinding allows for full unfolding, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.
Kim's dedication to this project is reflected in the extensive research he conducted, which included reviewing and organizing LIMB Eungsikâs Scrapbook, the largest archive of Korean photographers owned by MUSEUM HANMI. This effort has not only filled gaps in Korean photography history but also laid the groundwork for future academic endeavors in this field.
Recognizing the significance of this project, the A' Design Award honored Kim's work with a Bronze award in the Print and Published Media Design category in 2023, acknowledging its outstanding creativity and contribution to the world of photography and design.
