Sunghoon Kim's Stunning Book Design Inspired by Korean Culture

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Josef Koudelka Gypsies Book Design

Sunghoon Kim's book design for the Josef Koudelka Gypsies exhibition in Korea beautifully captures the essence of Korean culture and architecture, infusing it with the captivating photography of Josef Koudelka. The design reflects the fusion of Hangeul and Hanok, representing the mind and form, to express the unique characteristics of Korea.

The book, a hardcover measuring 206mm x 164mm x 27mm with 265 pages, features hot foil stamping on the cover, spine, and back cover, creating a visually stunning and tactile experience for the reader.

Kim's meticulous attention to detail is evident in the use of translucent paper to emulate the gleaming hanok at night, paying homage to the traditional Korean architecture. The choice of materials, including the use of gauze for bookbinding, adds a tactile and sensory dimension to the design.

The project, which commenced in Seoul, South Korea in March 2016 and concluded in January 2017, has garnered international acclaim, winning the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2020. Kim's innovative approach and creative prowess shine through in this exceptional book design, setting a new standard for visual storytelling.
