A Book Design Inspired by Korean Tradition and Retirement Celebration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kang Yoonsung Retirement Celebration Book Design

Inspired by the traditional Korean practice of sharing rainbow rice cakes on auspicious occasions, renowned graphic designer Kang Yoonsung's retirement celebration book is a unique tribute to his illustrious career. The book, designed in the form of a rainbow rice cake, features letters from 60 colleagues and students from Korea, China, and Japan, along with Kang Yoonsung's design work. The concept symbolizes a new beginning, not the end of his design journey.

The book, measuring 170mm x 250mm x 55mm and comprising 648 pages, is bound using soft nude bookbinding and features hot foil stamping on the cover. The cover is made of white corrugated cardboard, with five colored papers forming the book's interior pages. The project, which started in Seoul, Korea in September 2019 and concluded in February 2020, presented various creative and technical challenges, including the proper allocation of letters and images to realize the shape of the rainbow rice cake.

Kim Sunghoon, the creative director behind this remarkable project, aimed to capture the essence of retirement as a comma for a new journey through this book. The unique design and heartfelt content offer readers a glimpse into Kang Yoonsung's life and legacy, making it a fitting tribute to his impactful career.
