Design Project: The Crystal Clubhouse

Kris Lin's vision for The Crystal Clubhouse is to create a community shared club that enhances interaction among people, featuring spaces like a tea club, shared book bar, sunlit pool, gym, and yoga room. The project aims to deepen parent-child communication, promote physical health, and strengthen neighborhood ties through thoughtful design and diverse facilities.

To ensure the building's transparency, high-transmittance low-emissivity glass combined with custom deep white glass and dark gray anodized aluminum panels were used. The club covers 1500 sqm over three floors, offering a ground-floor reception and tea club, a second-floor reading bar, yoga room, and gym, and a third-floor sunlit pool for family activities.

The project started its design phase in Shanghai, China, in October 2022 and was completed in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, in June 2023. The integrated design creates a multifunctional community center that merges indoor and outdoor spaces, using glass to foster light and connectivity, blending activities and landscapes for a cohesive, open yet private setting.

Challenges such as designing a transparent, lightweight glass building without compromising structural strength were overcome by using high-performance glass, hidden structures, and glass curtain walls. The project aims to establish a community-shared clubhouse to foster social interaction, deepen family communication, and create a healthy community.
