ARBO design Introduces Pharmy: The Autonomous Mobile Robot for Hospital Logistics

BRAZIL -- /DESIGN/newswire -- Oct 21, 2019

ARBO design introduces Pharmy, an innovative autonomous mobile robot designed to revolutionize hospital logistics, reducing operating costs and increasing safety for healthcare professionals and patients.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pharmy: Autonomous Mobile Robot for Hospital Logistics

ARBO design is proud to introduce Pharmy, an autonomous mobile robot designed to transform hospital logistics. Inspired by the challenges faced by Latin American hospitals, Pharmy aims to revolutionize the way medicines are distributed within healthcare facilities, reducing operating costs and increasing safety for healthcare professionals and patients. Pharmy's innovative design also allows for its use in other environments such as industry and commerce, making it a versatile solution for various logistical needs.

Pharmy's unique properties lie in its autonomous navigation capabilities and its product-service system designed to perform logistics services efficiently and safely. By providing non-invasive, safe, and user-friendly medicine handling and delivery, Pharmy aims to reduce the risk of exposure to pandemic diseases such as COVID-19 and H1N1 influenza for healthcare professionals and patients.

The manufacturing process of Pharmy involves the use of advanced technologies such as metal stamping and plastic injection. The materials used include carbon steel, 304 stainless steel rollers, ABS plastic, nylon, armor-plated bearings, and LEDs. The product dimensions are 460mm in width, 460mm in depth, and 1100mm in height.

Pharmy operates as a single-unit robot or a network-synchronized system, primarily used in hospitals and factory logistics. It consists of a robotic structure attached to a five-drawer cabinet, allowing for the efficient supply of medicines at nursing stations. Each drawer features independent digital opening for safe and individual access, while the unit autonomously navigates through corridors, accesses elevators, and avoids obstacles or people, ensuring safe and efficient medicine delivery.

The project for Pharmy commenced in June 2019 and was completed in December 2019, with all design and development work carried out in Brazil. The design process involved extensive research, including desk field studies, focus groups, consumer insights, and trend mappings, with the objective of bringing innovation and differentiation to the Latin American market.

ARBO design faced various challenges in the development of Pharmy, particularly in integrating the needs of multiple stakeholders, including designers, engineers, nurses, doctors, patients, and IT professionals. The design had to adhere to international rules regarding safety, hygiene, and asepsis in the hospital environment, as well as indoor logistics for factories and commercial establishments.

Pharmy's innovative approach to hospital logistics has earned it the Silver A' Design Award in the Robotics, Automaton, and Automation Design category in 2020. This prestigious accolade recognizes Pharmy's outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence in transforming hospital logistics.
