Wenkai Xue Unveils Photosynthetic City, a Clean Energy Project Completed in Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer Wenkai Xue introduces Photosynthetic City, a groundbreaking clean energy initiative completed at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. Inspired by Singapore's Gardens by the Bay, this project integrates solar and biomass energy systems into urban environments, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and mitigating environmental impact.
The project's innovative design combines solar power generation modules with plant planting modules, effectively converting plant waste into electrical energy. The unique system not only provides sustainable energy but also contributes to air purification and noise reduction, fostering a healthier community environment.
With small and large solar installations, as well as planting modules made from recycled plastic injection molding, Photosynthetic City sets a new standard for clean energy integration in urban settings.
One of the key challenges overcome in this project was the seamless integration of the energy system with existing buildings, while minimizing plant maintenance costs. The planting module's unique design efficiently collects excess water and nutrients, ensuring optimal plant growth and minimal maintenance requirements.
Wenkai Xue and the design team, including Du Heli, Li Yuankai, Xue Bomu, and Wang Xi, commenced the project in November 2022 and completed it in February 2023 at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. The project's research focused on replacing traditional energy structures with clean energy, utilizing solar energy and rainwater to sustain plant growth and energy production.
Photosynthetic City's impact on the environment is significant, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable energy practices. The project's accolades include the Iron A' Design Award in 2023, recognizing its innovative and practical approach to sustainable design.
