Lavazza Idola: Redefining Home Espresso Experience

Florian Seidl, the design manager at Lavazza's Innovation Center in Turin, has unveiled the Lavazza Idola, a revolutionary coffee machine that promises to redefine the home espresso experience. Inspired by the Lavazza A MODO MIO product line, the Lavazza Idola boasts a sleek and innovative design that takes cues from various products, including vases and automotive interior controls.

The Lavazza Idola sets itself apart with its intuitive touch interface, offering four selections and a temperature boost function for a tailor-made coffee experience. This coffee machine is equipped with smart indicators for water levels, capsule container status, and the need for descaling. The machine's open spirit, quality surfacing, and sophisticated detailing represent an evolution of Lavazza's established form language.

Constructed using injection molding, glass, steel grid, and a painted main shell, the Lavazza Idola measures 145mm in width, 380mm in depth, and 280mm in height, weighing 4 kg. The design process involved conceptual and formal research, 3D modeling, mock-ups, and prototyping, with a focus on overcoming the challenge of developing a shared common platform for two machines simultaneously.

Florian Seidl's Lavazza Idola has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in the Home Appliances Design category in 2020. This accolade acknowledges the exceptional and highly innovative design that showcases unmatched professionalism and contributes to societal wellbeing, advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
