Lavazza Desea: Redefining Italian Coffee Culture

Florian Seidl's Lavazza Desea coffee machine is a friendly and innovative addition to the Lavazza A MODO MIO product line, offering a complete package of Italian coffee culture. The machine features a touch interface that arranges selections in groups for coffee and milk, allowing for personalized drinks with boost functions for temperature and milk foam. The patented milk foaming technology, intuitive touch interface with acoustic feedback, and quiet operation enhance the user experience.

The design of the Lavazza Desea draws inspiration from a variety of products, such as vases and automotive interior controls, resulting in a unique and aesthetically pleasing appearance. The machine comes with a dedicated glass mug and applies Lavazza’s form language with controlled surfacing, refined details, and special attention to colors, materials, and finish.

Developed using injection molding (ABS/SAN), glass, steel grid, and a painted main shell, the Lavazza Desea coffee machine measures 145mm x 380mm x 280mm and weighs 4.5 kg. The design project took place in Turin, Italy, and involved conceptual and formal research, 3D modeling, mock-ups, and prototyping. Despite the challenges of developing a shared common platform for two machines (Idola and Deséa) simultaneously, the Lavazza Desea stands as a testament to Florian Seidl's dedication to redefining Italian coffee culture.
