FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lavazza MilkUp: The Modern Milk Frother for Authentic Italian Cappuccino

Florian Seidl, the design manager at Lavazza, has unveiled the MilkUp, a quiet and efficient milk frother designed for home use. The MilkUp is part of the Lavazza A MODO MIO product line and boasts an elegant design composed of bold, colorful, and simple elements with high-quality surfacing and materials. The product's external shell features a prominent color split that lowers the perceived height of the product, while rear ventilation slots integrate a horizontal theme found on many Lavazza products, adding a special touch to any kitchen.

MilkUp allows users to enjoy authentic Italian cappuccino at home, quietly and efficiently preparing different recipes using magnetic induction. The backlit stop and go button is visually emphasized by a colored ring, and the jug is made from brushed INOX with no internal moving parts, making it easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher. It features clear marks for minimum and maximum levels on the inside and an ergonomic handle, with the whisk having a dedicated storage area on top of the lid.

The main shell of the MilkUp is made from plastic (ABS) with textured and glossy finishing, while the logo is pad printed. The jug is crafted from brushed stainless steel, and it features silicone rubber feet. The milk frother has dimensions of 205mm x 130mm x 230mm and weighs 0.9kg. It has a minimum milk capacity of 60ml and a maximum capacity for milk frothing and heating of 120ml and 180ml, respectively. The removable parts are dishwasher safe, and the milk frother operates at a power of 500W with a voltage of 220-240 and a frequency of 50-60Hz. It comes nicely boxed along with a Quick Start Guide and a more detailed instruction booklet.

Florian Seidl designed the MilkUp in Turin, Italy, and the complete product development process took about 10 months. The development process involved conceptual and formal research, 3D modeling, physical mock-ups, and prototyping. Despite the extremely short development time, the MilkUp was successfully realized, offering users a simple and intuitive user interaction. The frother is operated by inserting the whisk in the center of the jug, adding milk to cover the minimum mark, placing the jug in the base unit, and pressing the button on the front of the base to start frothing. The frothing cycle takes about a minute and a half, after which it stops automatically and sounds two beeps, signaling the completion of the process.

Florian Seidl, an Austrian designer with several years of professional experience, is currently Lavazza's design manager at the Innovation Center in Turin and teaches at the Scuola Politecnica di Design (SPD) in Milan. The MilkUp design has been awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Home Appliances Design category in 2021, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
